The Writer’s College Short Story Competition is open for entries.

Submission Guidelines

  • Open to unpublished writers or those with fewer than four publications, from any country.
  • Story length: Maximum 2,000 words.
  • Word count limit: If your story exceeds the word count by more than 50 words, it will not be considered.
  • Theme for 2026: The End of the Line

Judges: Sonny Whitelaw, Andrew Salomon and Arja Salafranca

Entry fee: Free to enter

Prizes:

  • R 10 000 and publication in an anthology of winning stories
  • R 5 000 and publication in an anthology of winning stories
  • R 2 500 and publication in an anthology of winning stories

Deadline: 30 September 2026
